Subject: Urgent! TRMM Needs your action NOW!

Dear TRMM colleagues:

As you may already know, NASA is on the verge of deciding to end the TRMM 
satellite's mission prematurely. This decision may come within as little 
as a day or two. We can still attempt to head off this decision if we act 
NOW. Even if the decision is made, we can appeal for a reversal since it 
will take at least several weeks to implement the decision.

To have any chance at all of reversing the decision to terminate TRMM we 
need for you to fax letters (NOT EMAIL, NOT SNAIL MAIL) directly to three 
individuals, immediately (MONDAY OR TUESDAY AT THE LATEST):

I am attaching my letters to these individuals. Feel free to use my 
letters as models. It does not matter whether your letter is perfect.
The goal is to make the point that the scientific community as a whole
is highly concerned, and to do this we need to have NUMEROUS letters going in 
to these key people. A rule of thumb in advocacy is that 10 hardcopy 
letters gets the attention of a representative. We should try for 50-100
letters!

Please forward this request to anyone else you think might be inclined to 
send letters. Don't forget your friends and relations can send letters!
